Look, what I found:

> Well, the way they chose to use a bad puppet at times to show Salem

No, that was the best part! It`s as if they were saying, "What, it`s
a show about witches, magic, and you`re complaining that the *TALKING
CAT* isn`t REALISTIC enough for you?"

Yeah, he was great!

> But my other point is why bother?

As others have pointed out, there`s a long history of taking stories
from one medium and re-doing them in another. Sometimes this isn`t
very successful (the Phantom of the Opera movie, from what I hear,
isn`t a good translation to the screen), and sometimes it`s much
better (The Lion King musical is much better than the animated movie).

You could apply those words to the recent reworking of _The Lord of
the Rings_ as movies with just as much justification. They came out
fantastically; this might too. Then again, it might suck-- most
movies do. But I don`t think the motivations for making it are any
more likely to make it suck than anything else.

Besides, a lot of people like _The Magnificent Seven_, but I found it
dull, slow, and barely watchable, except for Eli Wallach, who didn`t
get nearly enough screen time. But if it hadn`t been made, I might
not have watched _The Seven Samurai_. So maybe more people will watch
the anime, if a live-action movie is being made.

One point Blade has made repeatedly here, which has finally sunk in
with me is that no matter what happens, you still have the original!
The R1 DVDs aren`t going to disappear from your shelf, so if you don`t
like the live-action movie (if it even gets made, which I`m still
doubtful about), then hey, don`t watch it, tell everybody who says
they liked it about the original, whatever. You can still enjoy my
personal favourite Miyazaki movie all you want, and thumb your nose at
the proles who haven`t seen it. :)
